Four injured after police chopper crashes in Mathare

A police helicopter has crashed in National Youth Service (NYS) engineering school in Mathare North, Nairobi.

The four police officers on aboard the recently acquired AgustaWestland helicopter have been taken to the General Service Unit hospital for first aid. No fatalities have been reported.

The cause of the accident is yet to be known.At the moment, NYS officers are engaging residents in a running battles as they try to clear the area.

The six sitter chopper is said to have developed mechanical problems while airborne before it nose dived, a witness has said.

This is the second crash of an aircraft reported today, following an earlier crash in Naivasha involving a light plane.

The earlier accident occurred at Sanctuary Farm. A Kenya Red Cross officer at the scene said five of the six passengers suffered injuries while one was seriously wounded.

The Naivasha OCPD says the aircraft was airborne for less than five minutes.
