A helicopter carrying Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto was forced to make an emergency landing on the Southern bypass on Sunday at around 6pm.
The Eurocopta AS35 was forced to land in an open field near the highway instead of Wilson Airport due to poor visibility caused by rains that were pounding parts of the city at that time.
The pilot who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that he could not land at the airport due to harsh weather conditions and had to make a judgement call and find an alternative field.
The pilot said the Governor and his bodyguard were picked up by private drivers after they landed safely. Police officers arrived at the scene to guard the chopper and keep off members of the public.
