Athletics Kenya mourns the loss of former Kenyan half marathon champion

Athletics Kenya has announced the demise of the 1998 world half marathon champion Major Paul Koech.

Major Koech was a co-opted member in the athletic Kenya executive committee and a great track, cross country and road racing athlete of all times. A dedicated team player in Kenya’s National & World Cross Country together with World Half Marathon for many years where he won year in year out.

According to a source Major Koech fell ill and was admitted at the Nairobi’s Memorial Hospital after complaining of severe headache.

His death come less than a month after the tragic loss of 2015 world 400 meter hurdles champion Nicholas Bett who passed away in a road accident.

In a statement in regards to this Athletics Kenya sent their heartfelt condolences to Major Koech’s family and to the entire Athletics fraternity.
