BBI REPORT FOCUSES ON REVIVING AGRICULTURAL SECTOR SAYS GOVERNOR OPARANYA

Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has said BBI report if voted for during the referendum will revive the economy of Western through supporting agricultural sector.
He said agriculture which is the backbone of the region’s economy stands to benefit a lot if the report is passed.
“Issues of sugar cane, maize and cotton farmers have been taken care of in the BBI report. Special funds will be allocated to agriculture to support small scale farmers,” said Governor Oparanya.
Speaking at Bukalama Hotel in Busia County during the official launch of BBI signature collection drive, the Kakamega Governor said the report also addresses unemployment among the youths.
He said the report proposes establishment of a Youth Commission which will handle issues affecting the youths in the Country.
“BBI report has the interests of every Kenyans; the youths, women, elderly, farmers, pastoralists, people living with disabilities among others. In Kakamega, all elected leaders even those who had oppossed the report have declared support for the BBI process,” he said.
Devolution Cabinet Secretary Hon Eugene Wamalwa lauded Western leaders for uniting to support BBI.
He said for the first time in history all leaders in the region are working together towards a common goal and one direction.
“All leaders in Western have signed to endorse BBI. This is a right move towards the same direction as a region,” said Wamalwa.
He urged MCAs to debate and endorse the BBI report when it is tabled in the County Assemblies.
“BBI tree has fruits for everybody. Governors have played their role well and now it is the turn of the MCAs to do their part after the signature collection,” he said.
Busia Governor H.E Sospeter Ojaamong said he will marshall support for the report in the County.
“I have read the report and it is good. We should support it,” said Governor Ojaamong.
