Canadian PM’s wife tests positive for Coronavirus

Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau, wife to the Canadian PM Justin Trudeau has tested positive for coronavirus. Trudeau’s office confirmed the news as it sought to assure the public that the PM is fine. Trudeau announced that together they were self-isolating.

Sophie Trudeau had been experiencing some mild symptoms following her return from the UK. She immediately sought medical advice and testing.

The news came via a statement that read, “Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau was tested for COVID-19 today. The test came back positive.” It added that she would remain in isolation and her symptoms were mild.

“The Prime Minister is in good health with no symptoms,” the statement further read. It revealed that he would be in isolation for two weeks and that his doctors had advised against his being tested for the virus.

The PM is set to continue his duties and will address the nation on Saturday. So far, Canada has reported one death and nearly 150 cases in six states.

The news comes as Manchester City revealed one of their players is self-isolating after a family member displayed flu-like symptoms. Speculations are rife that the unnamed City star is France defender, Benjamin Mendy.  Machester City is yet to reveal his identity.

“The club is aware that a family member of a senior men’s team player is in hospital with symptoms of a respiratory illness,” a City spokesperson said on Thursday.

“He has undergone tests at hospital one of which is for Covid-19. Until the results are known, the player in question is self-isolating as a precaution.”
