CHURCH ON HUMANITARIAN CRISIS

Drought and hunger raging in most parts of the country has moved the church into committing itself to contribute towards tackling the looming humanitarian crisis.

The Salvation Army Church has embarked on a humanitarian programme to assist starving people in the counties starting with North Rift region.

Under the Women Ministries of Kenya the church has raised funds through Harvest Thanks Giving Festivals and donated food to the starving in Turkana county.

Presiding over the festival at its Kisii town church, Territorial President, Women Ministries Margaret Siamaya disclosed a total of Ksh.38 million worth foodstuffs had since been distributed to Turkana North Sub County.

The women ministries were committed to help parents experiencing difficulties in fees payment due to the hunger to retain them in school.

Siamaya clarified, the food donations went to the people in deserving areas without discrimination adding the church’s headquarters had also chipped in.

She sent a passionate appeal to stakeholders and humanitarian organizations to come to the aid of the vulnerable children and communities owing to the climate change effects.

A veteran faithful, from the Jogoo Salvation Army church, Samuel Openda explained the church continued to   initiate projects that assisted the needy and physically challenged in the community irrespective of creed.
