Close Schools, Sossion urge Cabinet secretary

The secretary general for Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), Wilson Sossion has urged the Cabinet Secretary for education Fred Matiangi to close schools as move to curb the ongoing cases of arsons and trikes.

However, the CS has rubbished off the idea terming it as not permanent solution to the following cases of strikes.

“We close schools, go for holiday in August, open schools in third term and prepare for exams and everybody go away. And in next year again in June-July we will be having, and God forbid, will be having other cases to talk of,” the CS said during an interview with citizen.

The cabinet secretary said that he was a bit disappointed with the cases of discussions he was receiving since some of the solutions offered would not be a lasting solution to the current problem.

At the same time, the government has requested the church leaders to help government solve the ongoing problem.

The vice president while at Uasin Gishu County said that for this problem to be solved effectively both parties including government, parents, teachers and church leaders should work in unison.

On the other hand, speaking while at Bomet, Sossion defended arrested teachers accused of playing roles in ingoing arson cases blaming the changes made by Matiang’I on third term as the major causes of the strikes.

“Knut believes very strongly that, the teachers are not involved in the ongoing arson cases in schools. We are requesting the cabinet secretary to ensure that the teachers arrested are released immediately without any further delay,” Sossion said.

Matiangi however refuted the claims by Sossion and blamed the principals. However, on the wake of today,  more than four schools were torched.
