Over 50 patients today from Mathari Mental Hospital managed to escape following the doctors’ strike.
This has forced the government to launch a major operation to capture them back.
Close to 13 of the escapees have been captured, among them Kenyan female boxer, Conjestina Achieng.
In October, the ailing boxer was rushed to Kisumu District Hospital by well-wishers after her condition worsened as her family blamed the government for neglecting the former heavy weight champion.
Conjestina had to be sedated by doctors with the help of several security guards before being admitted for treatment after she turned violent.
She was diagnosed with Schizo-effective disorder/paranoid Schizophrenia on September 8, 2012, a disease associated with mental illness.
