Sports, Culture and Heritage CS is one of the latest casualties of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s war on corruption.
The sacking of Echesa comes weeks after graft allegations continued to be linked to the youthful CS.
Never known to mince his words, President Uhuru Kenyatta Friday sacked Echesa in a long due cabinet reshuffle that also saw Education CS moved to the Sports docket while KNEC chair Prof. Magoha assumes the Education docket.
An Executive Order from Statehouse read in part …in accordance with article 152(5) of the constitution, as read together with article 152(1)(d) of the constitution, the appointment of Mr. Rashid Echesa Mohamed, as a Cabinet Secretary has been vacated.
Following his sacking, Echesa has been linked to a tirade of corruption scandals including a human trafficking syndicate of eight Pakistani dancers, the loss of 380 million shillings from Mumias Sugar Company.
He was also linked to a house in Ruiru where fake money was intercepted.
The immediate former CS has also been accused of failing to pay amputee football team after their performance in Mexico
He was also linked to Bungoma Senator Cleophas Malala’s ‘nude’ photos
President Kenyatta, who seeks to cement his legacy, has been under pressure to sack non performing cabinet secretaries. it remains to be seen if the president will salvage his administrations reputation.
