State House Director of digital and new media Dennis Itumbi was charged with making a false document without authority and publishing a false statement.
He was also charged with reprogramming a mobile phone. The prosecution also asked the court to bar Itumbi from publishing anything on social media related to his case.
Itumbi appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot. The prosecution did not oppose his release on bail, but asked for stringent bond terms. The court declined to bar Itumbi from posting anything on social media.
His Samsung note 9 was allegedly reprogrammed. It will be used as an exhibit and will not be given to the defence. Itumbi’s lawyer Katwa Kigen stated they also need to carry out their own independent forensics on the phone.
Cheruiyot ordered Itumbi’s release on the strength of the bail he had deposited in the miscellaneous application. Itumbi was released on Ksh100, 000 bail on 10th July.
