Didi and Taxify challenge Uber

Taxify, the Estonian online taxi company, has announced a new global strategic partnership with China’s Didi, the world’s biggest mobile transportation platform, welcoming a new phase of competition in the business.

Within the walls of the partnership, whose financial details were made public, Didi said it will invest in and collaborate with Taxify so as to support its further growth and innovation across all its markets.

Markus Villig said in a statement, “Taxify will utilize this partnership to solidify our position in core markets in Europe and Africa.”

Taxify launched operations in Nairobi last year as it challenged Uber. The entity teamed up with a local cabs lobby, previously opposed the entry of Uber into the country.

Last year, Taxify said that it looks forward to starting its operations in other regions of the country inclusive of Mombasa, Kisumu and Nakuru while recruiting 7,000 more drivers in a span of one year.

Apart from Nairobi, Taxify operates in 25 other cities and 18 countries in Europe, West Asia, Africa and Mexico and boasts over 2.5 million users.
