President Kenyatta has ordered every section that is handling graft and corruption related cases not to be soft when handling the perpetrators.
Speaking during the Summit, the president said that even if the jail is full, he will create a room for such criminals as long as with evidence, the officials are booked and charged in a court of law.
“When it comes to this issue of corruption that has been at the centre stage of Kenyan public debate, it has frustrated me as President. And I would say why: because the pressure is on me to do something about corruption, the president posed.
“I then sit back and ask: show me an administration, since independence that has tackled corruption like I have done. I have removed everybody who has ever been named or touched upon on the issue of corruption,” he added.
President Kenyatta said that his efforts to fight corruption are thwarted by individuals who are there outside sleeping on their jobs.
“I have done my part, at great expense – political. I have told them to step aside, and they have done it; whether guilty or innocent, I suspend them for three months until investigations are concluded.
“By the way that pronouncement by itself is unconstitutional. I have no power to suspend them,” Uhuru said referring to the case of suspended ministers and reshuffling of the ministry. “I wish there was a way guilty persons could be charged, but nothing! We set up a multi-agency so that we can coordinate our affairs, still no movement.”
The president said that he has given all the bodies what they needed to carry out their mandate but there are no positive movements questioning them whether they lacked some tools and they never said.
“I have taken the actions that I can take within the Constitution. I have given all agencies resources to fight corruption, and I challenge any agency to come out and say that I haven’t given them the resources. I stand accused that the executive is not doing its work. What do you want me to do?” posed President Kenyatta.
“If people discuss what the problems are, we will always get solutions. We don’t need to shout out there. Let’s talk to each other, let us find solutions, let us not beat each other,” he said.
The president faulted those people using corruptions as a political tool, instead stand together and fight corruption.
