The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has said Governor Mike Sonko’s nomination of Anne Mwendwa as Nairobi Deputy Governor is null and void.
According to the DPP, Sonko’s move to nominate Mwendwa is a violation of his bail terms, adding that his office will move to court to challenge the same.
“The court was clear on what Sonko cannot do. To purport to have power to name a deputy while his case is still on is a violation of the bail terms given to him. We will move to court,” the DPP said.
Senate Majority leader, Kipchumba Murkomen has contradicted the DPP and said that Sonko had not contravened the law by appointing Mwendwa
Yesterday, Sonko nominated Mwendwa to be Nairobi Deputy Governor, so as to lead operations at City Hall, as he battles his case in court.
Mwendwa is currently the Chief Officer Disaster Management in Nairobi County.
