Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has concluded clearance of 13 candidates vying for Bonchari constituency in the incoming May 18th by-election.
For the first time in the history of elections in Bonchari constituency, three women candidates registered their candidature for a parliamentary seat.
The candidates number is the highest to be presented in a by-election countrywide in recent times.
Former deceased area MP John Oroo’s widow, Teresa Bitutu Oroo, who was cleared to contest for the seat under a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket urged the voters to elect her to complete projects which were halted when her spouse passed on.
Bitutu said she was determined to mount a vigorous election campaign and emerge victorious.
Mary Sophy Keraa, former Kisii county Women representative of United Green Movement pleaded with the electorate to pick her as a woman to complete stalled development activities.
Jubilee candidate Zepedeo Opore claimed he had what it took to be the area legislator having represented the people before in the same capacity.
Opore’s win had been overturned in an election petition paving way for the fallen MP to succeed him.
He vowed to continue from where Oroo left and refused to promise residents ‘heavens’ in terms of development since funding was dependent on the national government.
Margaret Nyabuto of Maendeleo Chapu Chapu claimed if elected the constituency will be transformed into a higher level of economic development.
A perennial contestant in the area’s elections David Ogega exuded confidence of winning this time round and reserved unveiling of his blue print.
