IEBC officials agree to resign conditionally

The Independent Election and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials have eventually agreed to step down and quit office but not unless their demands are met.

The commissioners have agreed to leave the office on a negotiated settlement if the offer is made. The commissioners said that, all they want, apart from their salary and allowances is a dignified exit from the office.

“If there is a political settlement to be raised, the commissioners will not be stumbling block,” IEBC Chairman Isaack Hassan said. “That is on behalf of all the commissioners,” he added

“We have served the country with honour and we appreciate the good work of this committee,” said Commissioner Lillian Mahiri-Zaja

The 14-member team on electoral reforms thanked the commissioners for the step they took to exit the office and sacrificing themselves to enable Kenya have free and fair elections.

“Thank you for sacrificing for this country so that we can have a free and fair election in 2017,” said Senator Kiraitu Murungi, the panel’s co-chairman
