An independent election observer, PIMAC International, Kenya, has expressed satisfaction with the way the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) conducted the 2022 General Elections.
However, the observer group, Head of Mission, Pius Masai, called for civic education to address low voter turnout in future elections.
“Generally, turnout of voters affected the results, creating a stiff competition among the leading contenders,” he noted.
In his Report, Masai noted that there is a need to build trust among Kenyans and the electoral body for a smooth electioneering period.
He urged Kenyans and those who participated in the General Elections to join hands and move forward to develop the country.
“It is the responsibility of all of us to move the country forward. There is no loser in any election, all are winners. There is a need to consider joining hands in uniting our country and embark on development initiatives,” he noted.
Meanwhile, leaders from the Western Scholars Organization, have sent a congratulatory message to President-Elect, William Ruto, whom they say shares their aspirations and dreams for the country, as envisaged in Kenya Kwanza Manifesto.
During a press briefing, the organization’s Chairperson, Prof. Kubasu Kwashe, said their support to Dr. Ruto is motivated by his position on matters of great interest to Western region.
He said the President elect has outlined proper mechanisms on transforming the education sector, a roadmap for alleviating poverty and a robust housing scheme, to curb informal settlements.
Prof. Kubasu also said that plans to reduce the cost of farm inputs, revive redundant factories such as Mumias Sugar, Nzoia Sugar and Webuye pan Paper Mills will create employment, increase income and develop the region.
Other areas of concern the scholars have taken interest include the promotion of cottage industry through value addition such as pottery and basketry in Kakamega and simsim in Busia.
He urged Dr. William Ruto, to remain committed to his promise of implementing the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBAs) in universities, colleges and schools to solve perennial strikes.
“We have total confidence that the President-Elect and his team will be able to address the plight of scholars countrywide. We guarantee him our total support as we have already done during the just concluded presidential campaigns,” he added.
