Italian volunteer abducted in late night ambush

Policemen in Kilifi have launched an operation in Makongeni sub location, Kilifi County, to track down suspected al-Shabaab militants for abducting a 23-year-old Italian woman from her hotel room.

A senior policeman in the area identified the victim as Sylvia Constanca. According to the area policemen, the attack took place at around 8 pm yesternight involving a gang fully armed with AK-47 rifles.

According to a police report, the gang abducted the Italian lady who is a volunteer of an NGO known as Africa Milele Onlus.

The report went ahead to state that five people, among them a twelve-year-old boy were shot and seriously injured during the attack that occurred at a local shopping Centre in Chakama area, 80km west of Malindi town

The main reasons behind the attack are still unknown and so far the identity of the attackers hasn’t been established.

A major security operation has since then been initialized since the attack happened to track down the kidnapped woman and the attackers.
