KWS hunting five stray lions, hyenas in Kilifi

Kenya Wildlife Service has dispatched a team to track at least five lions and hyenas terrorizing residents of Magarini in Kilifi county.

The lions are suspected to have escaped from Tsavo National Park and Boni Forest. They are said to have invaded villages in the area and killed several domestic animals.

Adan Alio, KWS Coast conservation assistant director, said the team was instructed to trap the animals and drive them out of the location.

A lion attacked a 10 year-old girl as she slept in their house in Kwale county and dragged her body to a nearby forest on Tuesday.

In February, three lions broke loose and wandered off into Lang’ata sparking off one of the most tense lockdowns as rangers combed the estate for the big cats.

Another lion sneaked out of Nairobi National Park in March and ended up injuring one person.
