Locals creating conflict in marsabit and isiolo put on notice.

Local creating conflict among communities in Marsabit and Isiolo counties have been put on notice.Eastern Regional commissioner Isaiah Nakoru said the government will not tolerate any form of conflict at all in any area in this counties.Nakoru said the animosity between some communities in this counties has been orchestrated by cattle rustling and differences between the communities over past events but noted that the government is engaging the locals and leaders to strengthen security in this areas.

“We have mapped out the areas and the hot spots where the communities have conflict and we have deployed all mechanism to ensure not conflict in Marsabit and Isiolo,”stated Nakoru.

According to security agencies the conflict between two dominant communities has undertones of politics and this comes at a time when the country is heading to electioneering period.He lauded the elders in those counties for collaborating with chiefs to traverse different areas of Marsabit County to preach peace and sensitize locals to take back stolen animals. Nakoru said this has born fruits especially in communities of Rendile and Gabra in Marsabit where Gabra community took back cattle belonging to Rendile which had been stolen.Further he urged locals to embrace peace and order.

The RC also said locals who have been in possession of illegal firearms some handed them over to security agencies.The chairman security committee advised those still with this firearms to use the amnesty which the government placed to return them before the forced disarmament .Nakoru said there is need for the residents in those counties to embrace and explore diplomatic and lawful ways of conflict resolutions.So far Nakoru observed that several people have been arrested and arraigned in court over the chaos in Marsabit and Isiolo noting that those who will ignore government directives to restore order they will face the law.

Early this month the government deployed a contingent of General Service Unit officers in parts of Marsabit County to restore order.Inspector General of police in a statement issued to newsroom he warned perpetrators of the criminal activities causing chaos in Marsabit to hand themselves in nearest police station or face the wrath of the law.
