Luka Modric extends real contract until 2020

Real Madrid have extended the contract of veteran Croatian playmaker Luka Modric until 2020.

Modric, 31, joined Real from Tottenham in 2012. He quickly became the focal point of the white midfield, helping the club to win two Champions Leagues and one Club World Cup.

His original contract, which was due to run out in 2018, has now been extended to 2020, the European champions said on Tuesday.

Modric has been out of action for a month now after undergoing knee surgery, but is expected to reappear in around three weeks.

Last week Real announced the extension of the contract of German midfielder Toni Kroos until 2022.

According to media reports, the next Real players in line for an extension are Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Pepe.

“Real Madrid C. F. and Luka Modric have reached an agreement to extend the player’s contract with the club until 30 June 2020,” read the  clubs statement.

Luka Modric will appear before the media on Wednesday at 1:30pm in the press room at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.
