Magoha Roots For Expansion In Special Needs Education In Reforms

Access to basic education for all students is an essential goal for many countries around the world. Also, as worldwide calls for providing inclusive education continue to intensify, access to basic education for many students with disabilities in Kenya remains a pervasive challenge.

Large class sizes, inadequate funding, limited teacher training, cultural perceptions, and lack of disability awareness exacerbate this challenge.

It is on this backdrop that the Ministry of Education will officially open the pre-conference on expanding inclusion of special needs education in the education reforms at the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE).

The current education system is still ill-equipped to support learners with disabilities and special needs, a joint report by the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) and the ministry of education had revealed in March 2018.

Therefore the conference is aimed at deliberating on matters to better equip the institution to enable them to cope with pupils and student with special needs. The conference will be spearheaded by education cabinet secretary professor George Magoha.
