Kenya national women’s volleyball team, Malkia Strikers, make a grand return to the Olympic Games after 16 year drought. Their win over Nigeria in the qualifier tournament played in Yaunde, Cameroon was the much needed boost for Kenya. Malkia eased through Nigeria 3-0, with sets of 25-15, 25-21 and 25-12.
Paul Bitok’s side won 3-1 in their first match against Egypt on Sunday, before beating Botswana 3-0 in their second match on Monday. They then saw off their arch-rivals Cameroon by 3-2 on Tuesday.
Kenya finished with 11 points, one ahead of hosts, Cameroon, who finished second, ahead of Egypt, Nigeria and Botswana.
The team jets back from Cameroon this evening.
