Manchester derby cancelled in china

The hotly-anticipated reunion between Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola will now be delayed until the Premier League season proper after heavy overnight rain in Beijing left the pitch unplayable.

United boss Mourinho and new City manager Guardiola, who were fierce rivals while coaching Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively, were due to face off for the first time in almost three years when the Manchester clubs met in a friendly fixture at Beijing’s Bird’s Nest Stadium.

But heavy rain in the Chinese capital has rendered the pitch unplayable, with United revealing on Twitter that “tournament organizers and participating clubs have decided to cancel” the encounter.

The game was set to kick off at the Bird’s Nest Stadium in Beijing at 12.30pm.

“Due to recent weather events, tournament organizers and participating clubs have made the decision to cancel the International Champions Cup fixture to be played in Beijing tonight, 25 July,” United announced on their website.
