Margaret Kobia becomes the first CS Nominee to face the panel

Four nominees for cabinet secretary positions are expected to be vetted by the national assembly’s committee on appointments.

Public Service CS nominee prof Margaret Kobia is the first to appear before the committee that comprises of only jubilee MPs. Nominees for the position of the chief administrative secretary will be exempted from the process even though its constitutionality is being challenged in court.

Other nominees for cabinet secretary positions who will be defending their suitability include Farida Karoney of lands, John Munyes of petroleum and Peter Munya of East Africa Community.

Members sitting in the committee of appointments who all are jubilee party members have committed to ensure the vetting is impartial.

MPs are interrogating the nominees on integrity, academic and professional backgrounds, after which they have 14 days to approve or reject names.

Opposition Mps have abstained from the activities of the committee on appointments and declared they will not be involved in the vetting process.

third way alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot and Kenya Human Rights Commission Chair George Kegoro have also requested to appear before the committee to discuss general issues on the vetting process.

Five other nominees among them Monica Juma for foreign affairs, Keriako Tobiko of environment are expected to appear before the Justin Muturi led committee on Friday.
