Medical supplies distributed to County Health Facilities

Uasin Gishu County Government has distributed medical supplies worth Sh67 million from Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA).

Governor Jonathan Chelilim Bii flagged off the medical supplies intended for the 138 medical facilities across the County.

“I advise upon procurement and distribution of the drugs we will take the medical supplies direct from KEMSA to the required facilities. The medical supplies should not be stored for long in the central store while the facilities require them,” said Bii.

The governor noted that the county has received additional medical supplies worth Sh 1.2 million from medical camps in Europe and America that will serve the residents until next January.

Bii vowed that his government would guarantee that all hospitals and dispensaries had access to all necessary medications on required basis and urged individuals in charge of the medical supplies to be accountable for receiving, use and security of the materials.

“The drugs would minimize the patients’ cost of treatment as they will not have to purchase the medications from private pharmacies as they have been doing for the past few years,” he said.

The governor also demanded cooperation from hospital administrators and Pharmacists to guarantee that medications are only delivered to patients and issued a warning to anyone caught selling hospital medications to private chemists.

He also urged the medical staff to work diligently to provide patients with high-quality care and promised to cooperate with them to improve the health sector assuring them that his door was always open if they required any help.

“In order to enjoy the hospital services, I encourage everyone to register with the National Hospital Insurance Fund(NHIF), which lower the cost of medical care and services and always update to make sure the information is current,” Bii said.

“We have plans to help the elderly and those with disabilities so that they can easily access medication especially those with long term ailments,” he noted.
