Ministry of transport proposes car-free days in Nairobi CBD

By Ken Kimani

No car will be allowed into the Nairobi Central Business District(CBD) on Wednesdays and Saturdays with effect from February 1.

The Ministry of Transport has proposed that these days be car-free days to allow for hawkers to sell their wares on the streets, PS Paul Maringa said on Monday.

This comes after Nairobi Governor banned Public Service Vehicles on 3rd December 2018. The ban was lifted on 4th December 2018 after an outcry from the public demanding that Private vehicles cause more traffic than Public Services Vehicles.

64 BRT buses are expected to arrive next month to ease traffic congestion in the city.
