A Multimedia University of Kenya student and two security guards shot by police during the recent demonstration against killings caused by rogue Rongai matatus will have to live with bullets lodged in their bodies.
According to doctors at Nairobi Women’s Hospital, the student has a bullet in his chest, while one of the guards has it in the armpit and his colleague in the neck.
The medics indicated that it would be dangerous to take off the foreign objects. The medical practitioner divulged that in case the bullet is removed, it would be a 50/50 chance of survival.
The three were among six others who were injured by live bullets fired by the police during the riot held after one MMU student was hit by a matatu outside the Varsity’s gate.
This came a day after another learner identified as Cynthia Akoth was killed in a horrific accident on Lang’ata road.
During the September 27 demos, the enraged students displayed the live bullets on a television interview used by the officers who were dispersing them.
