Live-Moi’s memorial service underway, five visiting heads of state in attendance

Former President Moi memorial service is underway at the Nyayo National Stadium. President Uhuru Kenyatta is leading the service.

Mzee Moi’s body was earlier on viewed by heads of states and diplomats at State House Nairobi before leaving in a gun carriage for Nyayo Stadium at 9.18am. The gun carriage flew a miniature national flag and Moi’s presidential standard. The casket was covered with the national flag.

The former Head of State’s body earlier left State House through Gate A and was driven slowly as the military band played. Leading the military band was a motorcade. The parade of military officers marched on both sides of the truck as they headed for Processional Way. They marched through Uhuru Highway, down to Bunyala Roundabout and finally to Nyayo Stadium.

Moi’s immediate family members  including his sons Raymond, Phillip and Gideon followed the funeral procession. The route was closed off to the public.

Deputy President William Ruto received visiting foreign leaders at the Nyayo National Stadium who included Presidents Sahle Zwede (Ethiopia) Salva Kiir (South Sudan) Paul Kagame (Rwanda).
