NASA brigade takes vote hunt to Kisii

NASA principals will on Wednesday hold a rally in Kisii county as they intensify their hunt for votes ahead of the August 8 elections. The rally at Gusii Stadium will be attended by flag bearer Raila Odinga, his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka and the other principals.

Kisii county ODM chairman Kerosi Ondieki on Monday said preparations are ongoing. The other NASA principals are Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya), Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) and Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto .

On Sunday, the opposition chiefs held their first rally since the unveiling of Raila as the flag bearer- in Nakuru.

Speaking at Gusii Stadium, Kerosi said; “The entire NASA-Pentagon have confirmed that they will grace the mega rally which will be a game changer in Gusii politics. We are ready to host them and we invite our neighbours to come and attend the rally. Preparations have begun.”

Kerosi was accompanied by party secretary Amos Andama, County ODM Youth League chairman Eric Janganya, ANC’s deputy secretary general Esnas Nyaramba and NASA presidential campaigners Job Nyangena and Josephine Ombati. The officials said Kisii and Nyamira counties remain strongholds of Raila.

“In the 2013 elections, Raila got more votes than President Uhuru Kenyatta. We have increased our support base and we now target 90 per cent. Kisii remains a NASA zone,” Kerosi who is the Kisii County Assembly speaker said.

Speaking separately, Bobasi parliamentary aspirant Lucas Mogoa said the opposition will get more seats in Kisii than Jubilee Party.

“Kisii is not a swing vote as some people think. We are firmly behind NASA,” said Mogoa.

Kerosi downplayed the defection of Senator Chris Obure and Bomachoge Chache MP Simon Ogari from ODM to Jubilee.

“That will not shake the party. ODM has very strong aspirants who will take their positions. Those are self-seekers and we will beat them hands down,” said Kerosi.

Kerosi and Andama warned the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission against changing tallying centers.

“We have information that some politicians want to influence the IEBC to change tallying centers. We shall oppose this because it is a sign of pre- rigging,” he added.

President Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto have made several trips to Kisii and Nyamira counties where they have launched several roads projects in a bid to woo Kisiis to vote for them.
