Normalcy returns at JKIA following morning of delayed flights over staff go slow

Normalcy has seemingly returned albeit slowly at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport following an aviation workers strike that halted operations since midnight Tuesday.

Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure, and Housing and Urban Development James Macharia said Wednesday that the crisis witnessed JKIA this morning had been contained.

According to the CS, airport users should resume normalcy and other businesses within the airport, terming the strike as illegal and a move to sabotage the economy of the country.

According to the Cabinet Secretary for Labour Ukur Yattani, the ongoing strike is illegal, insisting that there is a court directive against the strike.

The Kenya Aviation Authority staff are opposing the handing over management to Kenya Airways claiming the move will render them jobless.

The Kenya Aviation Workers Union Secretary-General Moses Ndiema was arrested early morning over the strike. Six staff were hurt in the scuffle as police dispersed the demonstrations that had rocked the country’s main airport.
