Nzoia Sugar Company has appointed Mr Michael Wanjala Makokha as the Managing Directo. Makokha’s appointment comes four months after the death of former MD, Michael Kulundu. Mr. Kulundu had served in acting capacity for two years before his controversial death on 7th March, this year.

His appointment was announced by the chairman of the company’s board of directors Mr Joash Wamang’oli who declined to field questions from journalists. He said, “Mr Michael Wanjala was recruited through a competitive process and is taking over from Mr Ignatius Wafula who has been holding the office since the demise of Mr Kulundu. His appointment rests fears that have faced the company for months. We however don’t want you (journalists) to pose brain-boggling questions to us.”

Mr. Makokha said, “I am coming in at a time when the Sugar Sector is facing a myriad of challenges including scarcity of raw material and delayed payment to workers and farmers. I will do everything possible to turnaround the fortunes of Nzoia Sugar Company to ensure it resumes its lost glory.”

Mr Wafula, the outgoing acting MD said the miller has 973 permanent staff that have gone for months without pay. He added that employees had shown patience and worked for months without salaries to make the miller remain afloat.

Mr Wanjala is an accountant by profession and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).
