Two police officers were seriously injured after they were run over by a pickup truck at a roadblock along the Southern Bypass in Nairobi.
The two who were manning the roadblock are said to have attempted to flag down the speeding motorist who veered off the road towards their direction.
Other officers present during the incident said the driver run over the roadblock then hit their colleagues. One was admitted to the High Dependency Unit at one of the city hospitals while the other was treated and later discharged.
Confirming the incident which happened over the weekend, Nairobi police boss Japheth Koomesaid the motorist was immediately arrested.
“The vehicle swerved beside the roadblock towards the escaping officers, injuring two. The driver was arrested,” he asserted.
He further added that the suspect would be arraigned in court to face multiple charges.
Two weeks ago, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) announced it would be conducting a joint crackdown together with the police department in a bid to enhance road safety.
In the crackdown, the Authority released a list of main areas on which it would focus and some of the items drivers would be required to have while driving.
