A second Ebola patient has died in Uganda. The victim was a 50-year-old woman. She was confirmed to be the grandmother of the five-year-old boy who died. The boy’s three old brother has also tested positive for Ebola. All three had travelled to Congo to care for an Ebola patient.

The Ministry of Health announced that Uganda had recorded three cases of Ebola infection.

The family was quarantined at a hospital in Bwera, in Kasese district. Eight others who had been in contact with them are in an isolation ward. All will be vaccinated Friday with a new drug designed to protect them against the virus.

The World Health Organization will hold an emergency meeting Friday to determine whether to declare the outbreak “a public health emergency of international concern,” in efforts to fight the disease.
