A nurse died instantly after she was knocked down by a speeding in Iriamurai Village, along the Kiritiri-Kivaa road in Mbeere South, Embu County on Tuesday night.
Ms Agnes Gakii was crossing the road when the Toyota Probox car which was ferrying passengers from Kiritiri to Machang’a hit her at around 8pm.
Kombo Munyiri Sub-Location Assistant Chief Antony Munyiri said the victim, who worked in Kiritiri, had just alighted at the bus stop after coming from work when the accident occurred.
“She died instantly. The vehicle was moving at a very high speed and she had no chance to spot it,” he said.
Mr Munyiri said the accident occurred at the same spot where three footballers died in July when the vehicle they were traveling in rolled.
Mr Munyiri said residents had complained over many accidents which were happening along the three-kilometre stretch from Kiritiri and called on the relevant authorities to erect speed bumps.
“The road is straight and has no bumps making the vehicles to speed.
“Many people have lost their lives there, especially school pupils from the three schools which lie along the road.
“Drivers should also be prevailed upon to slow down while plying the road,” he appealed.
The passengers traveling in the Probox car were unharmed while the body of Ms Gakii was removed to Embu Level Five Hospital mortuary.
