Suspected mugger shot by police found floating in river Migori

The body of a suspected mugger shot by police during a night patrol on Tuesday dawn was found floating in river Migori, Thursday.

George Musa Odhiambo, police said, was part of a gang that has been terrorising residents of the town at night.

He is said to be among the gangsters who have been waylaying their targets at the river Migori bridge.

On the fateful day, police on patrol were alerted of the acts of the suspected criminals, and hit Odhiambo as the group tried to escape.

Police recovered a toy pistol at the scene and it only emerged later that the slain suspect could have jumped into the river.

“We scouted the area on the same day, Wednesday morning and did not find anybody. We suspected that several members of the gang had escaped with gunshot wounds,” Migori county commander David Kirui said.

He said residents saw the body floating in the water with visible gunshot wounds on Thursday morning.

The body was taken to Migori Level Four hospital mortuary, as Kirui warned gangsters with guns in the area that they will be dealt according to the law.
