Treasury seeks for toll operator on major Kenyan roads

The treasury seeks for a private company that will manage Kenya’s busiest roads, the Mombasa-Nairobi highway as well as the Nairobi-Nakuru-Mau Summit highway, as soon as they are transfigured into pay-to-use roads.

The ministry has advertised for a consultant who will analyze the workability of the project also help the ministry to recruit an operator.

The consultant will be expected to offer advisory services throughout a year, of which the construction on both key highways will have already started, according to the ministry.

“The transaction adviser will assist the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Unit and contracting agencies with the competitive procurement of the project sponsor of a tolling operator for Kenya first’s mover toll roads program,” the advert clarifies.

As of the planned Nairobi-Nakuru-Mau Summit highway section, three firms have already been shortlisted.

Negotiations with America’s Exim bank to finance Sh 230 billion towards the Mombasa-Nairobi highway project have also commenced.
