My WCW: Love At First Mistake

They say it takes two to tango that is why I spent most of my life trying hard not to dance.

I have never been quite easy around ladies and they never seemed to like my company either so we stayed clear of each other’s paths.

When I was done with my four years of study in campus, I got a job as a recreational manager of a big company in Nairobi City. Having it in mind that I am a trained primary school teacher, it was not easy to explain my career life.

PRESSURE. Too much was the pressure coming from my parents, they thought that with my 15 K basic salary I was  more than able to raise three pairs of triplets!

Do these people know I don’t even have a girlfriend?

And three pairs of triplets, raised in the city of Nairobi? In my humble one bedroomed apartment in Kahawa Sukari? Those are like football team playing one-man-less!

As I sat down in the darkest corner Kibandaski Restaurant trying to ponder all these, somebody patted my back.

I turned to see a beautiful waiter towering over me.

What could such a beauty be doing here? Is she a tourism and Hospitality intern? Does she have a boyfriend?

I look into her eyes and look away immediately. Those brown eyes were like some vast dark forest, when you get lost in them; you can’t find your way out.

“Sir, what can we offer you?” she asked in a voice that could make Beyoncé retire.

Yourself. Now look at my dirty mind?

“Tea, please” I replied with the surety that could match a man being addressed as ‘sir’.

With this, she turned to leave.

“And what is your good name, miss?” I asked unconsciously.

“Tyra” she answered and left.

She was spellbinding. She occupied every part of my existence.

For those of you who are experience in these thing, is this love?

As I watch Tyra walk towards me with a mug of tea, I realize my first mistake. I looked into her eyes. I am lost into thoughts. I imagine me and Tyra on a date taking 5 chapattis with githeri. No, that’s not how to treat a lady. I should make her Tuesday terrible with Terrific Tuesday. How many selfies will we take?

Am jolted back to reality with a burning sensation on my back. Tyra, my perfect Tyra had tripped and poured half of the contents of the mug of tea on my back.

I am infuriated. For what reason exactly I don’t Know. I bang a two hundred shilling note on the table and walk out.

Tyra follows me trying to plead with me. All I can manage to say is “Goodnight”

Deep inside I feel great, great that I had come to this restaurant. Great that I had seen Tyra. Although I ordered tea and she decided to empty most of it on my back, I still great I had met her.

This must be Love at First Mistake.
