NCCK on Elections and Presidential term debate

The National council of Churches of Kenya- NCCK Embu chapter has castigated the remarks by political leaders who are pushing for an amendment of the Presidential term limit.

The NCCK Embu Chair Bishop Njeru Nyaga said the debate on constitution amendment was misplaced and should not be discussed at this time when Kenyans are struggling with lack of basic commodities.

Though he noted the proponents have a right of their say as enshrined in the 2010 constitution Bishop Nyaga said the issue was sending wrong signals on the type of leaders elected and barely three months in office.

Bishop Nyaga was speaking accompanied by church leaders after a meeting with different leaders in Embu county that included the County Security team.

He noted that the country had suffered a lot during the one party rule and when there was no term limit adding that a change is always good implying that 10 years term is enough for president

The church leaders further urged the IEBC to call for National conference to discuss the hits and misses of the just Concluded Elections in order to prepare adequately for 2027 polls.

The church also decried of an increase gender based Violence while calling on all stakeholders to rise up to the occasion and confront issues affecting the society.
