The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested a woman trafficking over 135kg of bhang with an estimated street value of Ksh. 4 million.
According to the DCI, the 30-year-old Regina Akoth Kungu was arrested at her house in Kwa Musa, Diani on April 20, 2024, by the Mombasa Anti-Narcotics officers.
“A woman found trafficking over 135kg of bhang with an estimated street value of Sh4 million was today arraigned at the SRM court in Kwale, following her arrest on Saturday by Mombasa anti-narcotics officers,” the DCI said.
The DCI added that several sacks containing cannabis sativa and Ksh 12,100 found at her house were seized.
On Monday, Regina Akoth was brought before the Senior Resident Magistrate Court (SRM) in Kwale, where the accused entered a plea of not guilty and was granted release upon posting a cash bail amounting to Ksh50,000. The court has scheduled the mention of the case for April 30, 2024.
Her arrest comes less than 72 hours after another suspect; Zuher Ali Mohamed was arrested by the Mombasa Anti-Narcotics detectives in possession of sachets of suspected heroin and bhang in Kiembeni, Bombo area of Kisauni.
In addition to the narcotics, a vehicle suspected to have been obtained through illicit channels, along with a sum of Ksh26,250 and USD 200 in cash, a weighing machine, packaging envelopes, and three mobile phones purportedly holding information about his accomplices, were confiscated.
He was arraigned in the Mombasa Law Courts on April 18, 2024.
