The Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Alfred Mutua on Friday revealed that the government intends to establish a tourism Park for planting trees.

The CS made the remarks during an official function welcoming Intrepid Travel, a multimillion-dollar Australian travel company, planning to expand its business in Kenya.

The function was attended by Australia’s High Commissioner to Kenya Ms Jenny Da Rin, Mr. John Ololtuaa, PS – State Department of Tourism, and other senior Government officials.

“Nairobi plans to establish a Tourism Park for tree planting,” noted the CS.

He additionally proposed that hotels and lodges encourage visitors to plant trees at their sites, with a nominal fee.

His statement coincides with the designated public holiday set aside to commemorate National Tree Growing Day and to pay tribute to Kenyans who perished in floods.

The President stated that the extensive tree-planting programme will be launched to conserve and restore the environment and begin to reverse the challenges of climate change.

“On this day, we will plant trees and remind ourselves that the solution to climate change is taking care of our environment,” said the President.

“Today as Kenya, we have purposed to plant a minimum of 200 million trees in one day,” stated President Ruto. He added, “I have been assigned to plant 20,000 trees, and I need some help,” noted the head of state during the launch of Call Centre International (CCI) Tatu City, in Kiambu County.

Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya noted that the day’s target is for each adult and each child in Kenya to grow at least 50 and 10 trees respectively in order to hit the 1 billion tree mark.
