Interior CS Kindiki Announces Unified Multi-Agency Approach in Food Relief Operations

Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki has announced a multi-agency collaboration between the National Disaster Operations Centre (NDOC) at the Interior Ministry and other state departments in assisting individuals affected by floods.

“Following a Directive by the President, the National Disaster Operations Centre (NDOC) at the Interior Ministry has this morning stepped up the coordination of multi-agency response interventions of relevant government ministries, departments, and agencies, as well as humanitarian organizations to offer support to affected persons,” read his statement in part.

Kindiki directed the County security teams nationwide to collaborate with County Government officials to guarantee the mandatory evacuation of those at risk.

“The County Security Teams across the Country are directed to work with County Government officials to ensure compulsory evacuation of those at risk,” he said.

According to the Interior CS, the government and its developing partners have mobilized food and non-food supplies to support those displaced.

“All available financial and human resources as well as public equipment are being deployed to mitigate the adverse effects of the raging waters on life, livestock, crops, and property,” Kindiki said.

The CS has also directed the National Police Service to coordinate search and rescue efforts on both land and air. Additionally, he instructed the Kenya Coast Guard Service (KCGS) to Step up its response operation.

Moreover, he also mentioned that the Meteorological Department and Road Agencies will be issuing frequent public notifications regarding regions that may experience heavy rainfall.

He urged drivers and pedestrians to avoid engaging in dangerous activities in flooded or excessively wet areas.

The public was also urged to work together with safety, health, risk, emergency, and communications teams that have been deployed to monitor, report, and provide assistance to individuals who may need help.

This Development comes after the country experienced heavy rainfall on Tuesday night that caused havoc in the Nairobi Metropolis and some other parts of the country, which rendered roads impassable and houses submerged.
