KURA Temporarily Closes 4 Roads Due To Floods

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority has temporarily shut down four roads due to floods.

The Aerodrome Road that cuts on the Upper side of the Nyayo National Stadium and Upper Hill has been partially closed.

Kapenguria Road off Waiyaki Way which branches into Lower Kabate has also been enlisted for temporary Closure. UN Avenue – Runda, and Kasarani Mwiki Road at Mwiki Bridge are also part of the roads temporarily shut down by KURA.

The Kasarani Mwiki Road at Mwiki Bridge has experienced massive flooding due to the Gatharaini River bursting its banks. A video circulating on social media shows a lorry and a PSV being swept away by the floods. The number of casualties is yet to be confirmed.

KURA has also cautioned motorists of floods along Mombasa Road at Cabanas, and Thika Road at Githurai/ Kahawa bridge.

The traffic police and our technical team are on the ground to direct traffic and enhance the safety of Motorists. We shall keep you posted as the situation unfolds,” assured KURA.

Floods have been wreaking havoc in different regions of the country particularly making numerous roads impassable.

The Kenya National Highways Authority has equally issued an advisory on floods on several roads such as the Thika Superhighway, the Oltepesi – Magadi Road, and the bridge linking Kitengela to Mombasa Road along Namanga Road.

To promote safety, the Kenya Railways has also suspended all commuter train services due to ongoing rains that have affected rail lines.
