The Immigration Department has announced that Nyayo House will be open on Saturday, 11th May to expedite the collection of passports.
In a statement by the department, applicants were urged to take advantage of the extension. ” To expedite the collection of passports, our Nairobi office will be open on Saturday, 11th May 2024 from 9 am to 1 pm,” read the statement in part.
“Applicants who applied for passports in Nairobi and have received notification to collect their passports are encouraged to take advantage of the extended service,” concluded the statement.
The announcement comes barely a week after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki noted that the government had put measures in place to expedite the collection of the final batch of 45,000 passports which were yet to be collected.
He mentioned that the 45,000 were the last batch of the over 700,000 passports whose production was delayed.
“We are in the process of transforming the service delivery concerning the issuance of the Kenyan passports as well as creating efficiency in the delivery of critical Citizen Services, notably identity documents, birth certificates, passports as well the management of foreign nationals in Kenya,” said Kindiki.
He affirmed that the review of the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act and regulations there under, and the Kenya Citizens and Foreign Nationals Management Service Act, is currently underway.
Other acts pending review include the Security Laws (Amendment) Act, the Counter Trafficking in Persons Act, the Refugee Act, the Registration of Persons Act, the Births and Deaths Registration Act, and other relevant laws to consolidate and actualize the reform agenda.
