In a decisive victory against narcotics trafficking, two notorious traffickers have been sentenced to 24 years in prison following a year-long trial at the JKIA law courts.
Hussein Otita Wakhayanga and Daniel Gor John were convicted of trafficking cannabis sativa worth over Sh4 million, marking a significant milestone in the fight against organized crime.
The duo was apprehended on May 22, 2023, during a high-stakes operation along the Nairobi-Naivasha highway in the Flyover area.
Officers from the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) intercepted their white Toyota Passo (KCS 679P) and conducted a thorough search, uncovering seven sacks and eight packages filled with dry plant material suspected to be narcotics.

The suspects, along with the seized substances and vehicle, were swiftly transferred to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters.
The Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) took charge of the case, and subsequent analysis confirmed the material to be cannabis sativa, weighing 161.75 kg with an estimated street value of Sh4,852,500.
On May 29, 2023, Wakhayanga and John were arraigned before the JKIA law courts, where six witnesses provided compelling testimony that led to their conviction.
“The suspects, along with the seized substances and vehicle, were whisked away to DCI headquarters, where the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) took the reins. Analysis confirmed the material was cannabis sativa, tipping the scales at 161.75 kg with an estimated street value of Sh4,852,500,” explained DCI.
This landmark case underscores the DCI’s unwavering commitment to eradicating narcotics trafficking in Kenya.
The agency has reaffirmed its dedication to bringing offenders to justice and protecting the public from the devastating effects of illegal drugs.
The DCI urges all citizens to steer clear of involvement in such illicit activities, as those found guilty will face the full force of the law.
