Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has issued a stern warning to what he termed as “arrogant” political leaders sowing division in Meru County, vowing to return to the region to confront the dissent head-on.
Speaking during the 10th Annual Dairy Farmers Field Day at Gitoro Showground on June 21, 2025, Kindiki, alongside President William Ruto, delivered a fiery speech that blended development messaging with a sharp political rebuke aimed at rivals within and outside the ruling coalition.
The Deputy President’s remarks, which have since stirred political conversation across the country, are widely viewed as a direct counter to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s recent rallies in Meru, where he sought to reassert influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a post shared on his official X account, the Deputy President wrote, “Meru is the cradle of the Kenya Kwanza Government. We will not allow a few arrogant leaders to sow discord and division here. I will be back to straighten things out.”
The tone of the statement marked a departure from Kindiki’s typically measured public demeanor, signaling his readiness to directly confront perceived sabotage within the Mt. Kenya East voting bloc—a region seen as pivotal in shaping the 2027 electoral outcome.
While the event was officially organized to promote dairy farming and agricultural development, the political undertones were unmistakable.
DP Kindiki reassured residents of Meru that the Kenya Kwanza administration remained committed to uplifting farmers through access to better markets, improved infrastructure, and ongoing subsidies for dairy input.
“We are not here for theatrics. We are here to affirm our government’s dedication to our farmers and to unity. But unity cannot thrive where arrogance and division are being exported,” Kindiki stated during his speech.
The presence of President Ruto added further weight to the event, underlining Meru’s significance to the administration’s broader political and economic strategies.
The Head of State praised local agricultural efforts and urged leaders to focus on service delivery rather than divisive politics.
This unfolding power tussle between Kindiki and Gachagua reveals deeper rifts within Kenya Kwanza and sets the stage for a charged political season.
As Mount Kenya leaders jostle for dominance, Meru emerges not only as a battlefield of ideas but also a bellwether for national unity or division in the years ahead.
