The Ministry of Health (MOH) has signed a landmark cooperation agreement on Health Products and Technologies Commodity Security towards strengthening the country healthcare delivery systems.

The agreement, witnessed today by Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale, brings together the Ministry of Health, the Digital Health Agency, the Social Health Authority, the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA), and the country’s National Referral Hospitals.

“This partnership marks a strong step toward strengthening Kenya’s healthcare delivery systems,” stated MOH.

Speaking during the ceremony, CS Duale emphasized the need for KEMSA to strictly comply with national quality standards to guarantee the consistent availability of essential medicines, reduce turnaround times, and enhance the reliability of health services nationwide.

The CS further called on health facility CEOs to adopt an end-to-end automated supply strategy aligned with the Ministry’s digital health transformation agenda.

With the rollout of track-and-trace systems, the supply chain will achieve real-time data visibility, improved stock management, and streamlined logistics, ensuring transparency, efficiency, and accountability.

“The rollout of track-and-trace systems will foster transparency and efficiency in the medical supply chain, supported by real-time data visibility, improved stock management, and streamlined logistics. This approach will strengthen accountability and ensure reliable service delivery,” stated Duale.

The cooperation agreement is a critical enabler of Universal Health Coverage (UHC), accelerating the implementation of its key pillars: health financing, human resources for health, an integrated Health Information Management System (HMIS), and commodity security.

Duale noted that the government has committed to strengthening KEMSA through a recapitalization of Ksh 1.5 billion and the finalization of a Ksh 10 billion credit line for sustainable financing.

With ongoing health sector reforms, the Ministry remains firmly on course in strengthening the health system to deliver quality, affordable healthcare to all Kenyans.
