Kenya Secures Safe Release of Two Nationals Abducted in Kampala

The Government of Kenya has confirmed the safe release of two Kenyan citizens, Mr. Bob Njagi and Mr. Nicholas Oyoo, who were abducted by armed men in the Kireka area of Kampala, Uganda, on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

The release follows sustained diplomatic engagement between Kenya and Uganda, led by the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign & Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi.

As part of the efforts, a formal communication was issued to Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Gen. Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, reinforcing Kenya’s commitment to the safety of its citizens and calling for close cooperation between the two governments.

“Following sustained diplomatic engagement between Kenya and Uganda, including a formal letter I personally addressed to Hon. Gen. Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda, both governments maintained open and constructive communication that has culminated in the safe release of our nationals,” stated Mudavadi.

The two Kenyans were released late last night to Kenya’s High Commissioner to Uganda, H.E. Joash Maangi, who, together with Ugandan government officials, facilitated their safe escort to the Busia border.

“Late last night, the two were released to our High Commissioner in Uganda, H.E. MaangiJoash. They were escorted by the Ambassador and officials of the Ugandan Government to the Busia border town, where they were received by the Busia County Commissioner, Mr. Chaunga Mwachaunga,”Mudavadi said.

In a statement, the Government of Kenya expressed deep appreciation to the Government of Uganda for the collaboration and support extended throughout the process.

The Government also commended the Kenyan diplomatic team in Kampala for their vigilance, commitment, and professionalism during the rescue and repatriation efforts.

The Government reaffirmed its commitment to ensure safety and welbeing of Kenyan citizens abroad  calling upon Kenyans living abroad to remain vigilant and maintain close contact with the Kenyan embassies for timely assistance and updates when needed.
