Artistes Thrive In Politics

Art and Politics

As the art industry in Kenya takes a turn for the best, things just keep getting better for the artistes in the country.

First in was Kenyans dominating Coke studio, then came  the best collabo in the country of the most celebrated gospel artist Willy Paul with the most sought after Jamaican song bird and now Kenyan artistes are quickly rising to leadership positions.

Celebrated Comedian John Kiarie aka KJ famously known for hit sit-com redykyulass in the recent Jubilee primaries beat the former gubernatorial aspirant Dennis Waweru to win Dagoretti South Jubilee ticket.KJ garnered 9,793 while Waweru got 9, 052 and this was enough to send the incumbent packing.

Cleophas Malala,a playwright, prominent for his controversial play ‘Shackles Of Doom’ which depicted unequal distribution of resources and dominance of top positions by main ethnic groups, clinched the ANC ticket to vie for Senator Kakamega County after winning with a landslide in the primaries.

Malala posted this appreciation message on facebook thanking his supporters for the massive support. ‘ASANTE SANA. thank you for standing with me 123,852 votes against 9200 was a true definition of a landslide win. Note that three constituencies have not been included… To all who supported me in the just concluded party primaries I say ASANTE SANA…. Murio mno(Thank You)’

Another artist doing well in politics is the illustrious  singer Charles Njagua a.k.a Jaguar who besides having a successful musical career, recently scooped the Starehe ward MP seat under the Jubilee ticket. Upon his win against incumbent MP Maina Kamanda, Jaguar now stands to battle for the ultimate position with Steve Mbogo of ODM and activist Boniface Mwangi.
