Championing Women Empowerment and Political Unity in Navakholo

By Diana Arodi

In a strong show of commitment to gender equality and national unity, leaders from across the country gathered in Navakholo constituency for a women empowerment event hosted by Member of Parliament Hon. Emmanuel Wangwe.

The event, which drew participation from national legislators and Kakamega Governor H.E. Fernandes Barasa, focused on advancing the rights of women in sectors like education, healthcare, employment and leadership.

Addressing the crowd, the guest speaker reaffirmed their dedication to supporting initiatives aimed at uplifting women, noting the persistent inequalities they face.

“Women are the backbone of our communities, yet they continue to face barriers in every sector. We must work together to break down these walls,” the speaker said.

The event served as both a rallying call for gender equity and a platform to promote political harmony.

The speaker emphasized the importance of viewing political competition as a healthy democratic practice, not a source of division.

“Let us not treat political rivalry as enmity. Elections may come and go, but our communities must remain united,” they urged.

Governor Fernandes Barasa echoed these sentiments, highlighting the need for inclusive development.

“Empowering women is not just about fairness—it’s about unlocking the full potential of our counties. We cannot move forward if half of our population is left behind,” he stated.

Hon. Emmanuel Wangwe expressed gratitude to all attendees and reaffirmed his constituency’s commitment to empowering women and promoting peace.

“Navakholo is ready to lead by example in fostering unity and supporting the women who hold our communities together,” he remarked.

The event concluded with a renewed pledge from leaders to continue supporting women-led initiatives and promoting cohesion across Kenya’s diverse communities.

It stood as a testament to what can be achieved when leadership prioritizes empowerment and unity over division.
