The clergy have called for the resignation of Transport Cs Kipchumba Murkomen and Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi over the controversies that have happened in their dockets in recent weeks.

The National Council of Churches Of Kenya has faulted Murkomen over the increased road carnage witnessed in recent months, and his counterpart over the fake fertilizer scandal. NCCK Nairobi Regional Chairman Alphonse Kanga castigated Linturi for failing to bring to justice officials responsible for the fake fertilizer scandal.

Kanga Accused Minturi of shielding the culprits responsible for swindling farmers over the government’s subsidy program.

” The fertilizer was issued out by government systems. They have the accountability. they know the identity of the storekeepers and the means of transport used to supply the fertilizers. The Ministry of Agriculture should be accountable for what happened and the individuals responsible.” Said kanga.

The men of cloth also faulted Murkomen for failure to tame the rising number of road accidents.” The rate of road accidents in Kenya can be measured by the rate of corruption in this country. We must have concentrated efforts between NTSA, the police, and all systems concerned because something must be wrong.” Lamented Kanga.

According to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), more than 3000 Kenyans have either died or sustained injuries in road accidents by late March.

Lawmakers had previously criticized both Cabinet Secretaries regarding both matters. Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba publicly reprimanded Minturi for persistently denying the existence of counterfeit fertilizer despite substantial evidence.

She urged the government to prosecute those responsible and compensate the deceived farmers for their losses incurred from fake seeds and fertilizers.
